The Atlanta Chapter of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs was founded in 1960, which qualifies us as the 2nd oldest chapter in the US, after New York City. Our original Bailli was Carling Dinkler and we have had a succession of talented Baillis since:
Carling Dinkler 1960-1970
Morton Hodgson, Jr. 1970-1974
Robert Garrison 1974-1974
Cicero Garner, Jr. 1974-1976
Anton Anthony 1976-1983
Howard Halpern 1983-1986
Lynne Halpern 1986-1998
Tony Conway 1998-1999
Richard Groves 1999-2001
Tom Gregg 2001-2003
Stephen Gross 2003-2010
Jeff Goldworn 2010-present
As we look towards the future, we plan to reach out to other chapters in close proximity, Oconee, Sea Island, Peachtree, Charlotte for joint attendance, look at more road trips to sister chapters (Miami, New York, Monterey), and participate with the legends of Atlanta, as well as the up and coming, with special evenings.
If you belong to another chapter, domestically or internationally, we hope you will check out our schedule to see if your plans can include one of our events, and join us to celebrate the benefits of our chapter and city.
The purpose of the Chaîne is to promote, foster and encourage the culinary arts and particularly the techniques of cooking by spit, rotisserie, barbecue, broiling and grilling; to collect and disseminate information with respect to the preparation and serving of foods, and the enjoyment, tasting and understanding of wines and distilled spirits; and to encourage educational institutions to teach all phases of the culinary arts, enology and viticulture.
L'Académie de Gastronomie Brillat-Savarin des Etats-Unis was born in 1999. Its purpose went beyond simply upholding and popularizing regional cuisines. L'Académie was a natural extension of our commitment to education. "The discovery of a new dish does more for human happiness than the discovery of a new star."....Brillat-Savarin
The l'Ordre Mondial des Gourmets Dégustateurs is an adjunct of the Chaîne devoted to specialized wine activities. L'Ordre events are, as a rule, less formal than are those of the Chaîne and, as often as not, the primary focus of a l'Ordre event is the wine, with food playing an important but, supporting role.
